The Hubbard Family Rundown

Hello, Everyone, I wanted to give everyone a rundown on me and on my family.  By the way, in case you don't know, I am the oldest son of Linda Sumner.  Back to my family, we are all in “transition” in our household.  Our four boys are grown and moved out and we are left with our three young girls at home.   Jan and I are enjoying the change.  Don't’ get me wrong, we liked all the ruff and tuff stuff from the boys—its just different.  Anyway, AJ our oldest, lives in Huntington Beach CA.  He is working as a waiter at the local Macaroni Grill.  He loves it because it gives him an opportunity to use the Italian language he learned while serving, his LDL mission, in Milan, Italy.  He is enjoying the beach and the wonderful So. Cal weather. Currently, he is trying to save up and get back to his education.
Zachary, our 23 year old, is kind of an entrepreneur.  He is trying his hand at all kinds of business.  Currently, he is working with an investor who buys and sells both businesses and real estate—yes, there is still opportunities out there.  Lately Zac, has been getting into modeling. He loves to work hard and to go dancing.
Nathan, our 20 year old, is going to Weber State College.  He is finishing up on his second year. He is working at a local grocery store full time, taking a full-time class schedule and still finding time to lift weights.  He is getting pretty buffed.  Nathan was a wrestler in High School and he placed at state.
Logan, is our warrior, he is finished with army boot camp and he has started his training to become a mechanic.  He loves the Army.  For more on Logan, go to Archives on this page and see “A Very Special Warrior,” towards the bottom—just click on it.  He will be home sometime in May.  Logan was a wrestler though-out High School.  He too placed at state.
Allyson, is our butterfly and our self-disciplinarian.  She is so dedicated at being the best in so many different areas.  She is an accomplished violinist, and classical ballet dancer.  For years I have been asking her to pick one discipline.  Because she has not made a choice, we have continued to pay for her lessons and she has continued to excel in both areas.  She is currently a Sophomore at Weber High.  She is taking several concurrent AP, college credit, classes.  By the time she finishes High School, she will be on her second year of college. Today, both her and her mom are heading up to Idaho Falls for a ballroom dance competition.  I forgot to say, she is on a Ballroom dance team.  She is a “High Honor Student” and she just turned 16 and can now date—life is good for her.
Jamilee, just turned 12, last month.  She is super sweat and kind to everyone and to everything. Every Saturday she helps a local veterinarian with clinic.  Currently she is memorizing her medical terminology for veterinarian work.  She is a member of the “Kids Are Music” program here in Utah.  This is a corol group of approximately 300 kids who sing and dance.  Jamilee is also a pianist.  However, if I asked her what she likes to do best, she would say, ride horses. Last year she was 1st Attendant for our Posse club.  Posse is a group of riders who compete in barrels, poles, keyhole and other horseback riding events.  Her horse “Paco” is an appaloosa gelding.  She truly looks like she is floating through the air as she rides, as one, with that horse. By the way, all three girls were in posse and all three girls won many events (Ally's horse is a Quarter Horse).  Jamilee, loves to read books/short stories and she love the great out doors. Today, we will take a long hike, even though it is suppose to snow.
Hannah, is our 9-year-old firecracker.  She is full of energy.  Both physical energy and in her inquisitive nature—she can talk non-stop for hours—this is no exaggeration.  Hannah is our second soccer player (Her older brother, AJ, paved the way in this area).  Her hero is Mia Ham, of women’s college soccer and of Olympic fame.  Hannah is always moving.  Even though she is home schooled, she will get up extra early so she can walk her friend Megan, to the bus stop. Megan will come to our house for piano lessons, before leaving on the bus for public school. Hannah loves our dogs.  Everywhere she goes, she brings them with her. (We have two Labrador retrievers—Lexie, a chocolate lab and Emma-a white lab.)  She too is an excellent horseman. When Hannah rides her horse, Patience (an Arabian), she looks like a prancing deer—you know the kind of jumping trout on all fours. She is beautiful to watch. She rides with have one hand on the rains and the other hand straight out to the side, like she is conducting a choir to the side.  Oh! I forgot to say, both her and her horse are always on a trot—if this horse didn’t have the Arabian stamina, it would be dead from running all the time.  Hannah is also learning to play the piano.  Sitting at the piano bench to practice is as stationary as she gets. She is our caboose and she is helping to keep us young.
Jan, what can I say about Jan?  She is “SUPER WOMEN.” She is the heart of our family. She organizes schedules, drives everyone everywhere, gives lessons, exercises, keeps house, plays, reads, teaches Jamilee and Hannah school, councils everyone, shops, sews, and she is either the leader or participates in all kinds of different groups—from weekly kids groups to colloquiums with other families.  She is an accomplished pianist—although she would never agree to that characterization.  Jan likes country music and she love to dance.  She is my best friend and confidant.  Her life and her legacy is her family.
Me, I am just the “FIRST DUDE” of the house.  I recently sold my publishing business (Jan. 1, 2009), so I am back in the hunt for a “real job.”  By the way, if you know of anyone I should talk with regarding either clinical laboratory or anatomical pathology, medical sales, let me know.  I am looking for contacts with Ameripath, ARUP, Amgen, or Myriad Genetics.  Thanks for allowing me this plug.  You never know where your next job lead will come form.  What else can I say?  I ran the local Posse Horsemanship group.  We took 1st place in the county—out of eleven other groups.  I am into both fresh and salt-water aquariums and I raise bees for honey. I have a half-acre garden—mostly weeds. I guess our biggest family activity is boating.  All of our kids love to wakeboard or tube.  We live down the street from a lake so we are able to go 2-3 times a week in the summer.  Frankly, as I write about myself, I sometimes wonder about living an inconsequential life.  I than only have to go as far as looking at my kids to know this could never be the case.  My wife Jan, each of my children and the LDS faith continues to enrich and enliven my life experience.  Life is good!  Well, that's if for now.  I hope I have not abused anyone’s senses.  Writing this was a surreal experience.  I look forward to seeing what everyone one else keys in on, with their post.  Enjoy!

P.S. Sorry, I will have to go to a different computer to get a some up-dated photos of family members.  They should be posted in a day or so.

  2. WOW. I always knew you had it together, but dang! What a family. Thanks so much for sharing. I'll post about mine soon. I really enjoyed ALL the paragraphs. I'm not learned on some of the nomenclature (only big word I know) regarding Posse's and such, but I am really impressed.
